Black Utopia is an EP exploring race/racism in America. On the heels of the unrest from the murders of George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery, America’s ugly racial climate could no longer be brushed under the rug. The glaring need for having honest conversations became all the more apparent. Black Utopia broaches topics from “talking white” and what it means to be educated as a black person, to colorism and how '“dark chocolate” skin tones were perceived negatively. These topics are all “complex”. Is utopia attainable on this side of heaven? Likely not. But starting these conversations is the only means of moving towards progress.
